Bernadeta Astari

Zangeres

Bernadeta Astari is a vocal artist with a strong stage presence and a beautiful, expressive voice. After completing high school in Jakarta, Bernadeta came to the Netherlands to study singing at the conservatory. Already during her studies she won important prizes, such as the Dutch Classical Talent Award and the IVC 's-Hertogenbosch. In 2012 she graduated with honors from Utrecht Conservatory. Her versatility soon landed her roles in special musical theatre productions and operas. Whether at a large festival or a small recital, she shines and turns every performance into a special experience for the audience with her voice and acting talent.

Arno Bornkamp

Saxophone

Arno Bornkamp occupies a unique position in the classical music world and embodies the modern virtuoso, feeling equally at home in both traditional and contemporary repertoire. He played over 250 solo concerts with orchestras worldwide, including new compositions dedicated to him. An advocate for new repertoire, he has also pushed boundaries within chamber music for decades in ensembles such as the Aurelia Saxophone Quartet, Trio Abril, Voyager Trio, and Duo Calvadoré. Arno gives masterclasses worldwide and has led the saxophone class at the Amsterdam Conservatory since 1995. He has won many prizes and awards, including the Dutch Music Prize, and was appointed Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau in 2025 for his services to international music life and music education.

Tobias Borsboom

Piano

Tobias Borsboom, praised for his "exquisite touch" (Trouw), made his breakthrough in the Netherlands as the winner of the 2015 Dutch Classical Talent Award and Audience Award. He has established himself as a versatile, creative musician with great finesse. He soloes with the North Netherlands Orchestra and the Residentie Orchestra, among others, and is also in high demand as a chamber musician. With piano duo partner Yukiko Hasegawa, he was elected to Shizuoka no Meishutachi (Masters of Shizuoka) in 2018, and has since performed regularly in Japan. He gives literary concerts with author Jan Brokken, is an acting musician in his own productions, and was artist-in-residence of the Vriendenconcerten concert series 2017-2019. In addition to his busy concert life, he teaches at the Amsterdam Conservatory.

Kamilla Bystrova

Piano

Pianist Kamilla Bystrova was born in Moscow, where she studied in the renowned Neuhaus tradition. She earned her Master’s degree from the Conservatory of St. Petersburg and later continued her studies at The Hague’s Royal Conservatory, where she now teaches piano at the Young Talent Department. She built an international career performing across Europe and Russia with the Moscow Philharmonic Society. Kamilla won the 1992 Link Prize for Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition and is known for her creative arrangements, such as Schubert's Winterreise for solo piano. She forms a successful duo with theremin player Thorwald Jørgensen. In addition to her busy teaching and performing schedule, Kamilla paints, draws, and sculpts. Her work can be found in private collections.

Rahmida Dewi Patmawati

Danseres

Rahmida was born in Selo, near Yogyakarta (Indonesia), and studied dance and choreography at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI). As a dancer she shone in the Ramayana Ballet at the Prambanan Temple. She has won several awards, including the Festival Karya Tari Daerah Yogyakarta and a national award for young choreographers. She has performed internationally in countries such as India, Japan, and Korea, to promote the traditional dance of Yogyakarta. Since 2010 she has lived in the Netherlands with her Dutch husband and two children. Rahmida is active as a dancer and choreographer and teaches dance at the Madaloka dance studio in The Hague.

Hawijch Elders

Violin

Hawijch Elders is regarded as one of the great musical talents of her generation. She studied with Ilya Grubert at the Amsterdam Conservatory, where she graduated with highest honors. She won prizes at the National Violin Competition Oskar Back (2018) and several international competitions, such as the Henri Marteau Competition (2023) and the Premio Internazionale Antonio Mormone (2025). She has soloed with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, the Residentie Orchestra, the Polish Radio Chamber Orchestra, and will make her debut in 2025/2026 with Phion and the Stuttgart Philharmonic. Since 2022, she is Artist-in-Residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Belgium. Hawijch plays on a violin from 1755 by G. Gagliano, on loan from the National Musical Instruments Fund.

Demian Filatov

Piano

Demian, aged fifteen, started piano lessons at a young age in Samara (Russia). Immediately after the outbreak of the war with Ukraine, the family fled to the Netherlands. He currently studies with Frank van de Laar at the Sweelinck Academy of the Conservatory of Amsterdam and is considered a tremendous talent. In 2023 he won third prize at the Princess Christina Competition, he recently won the 2025 Piano Biennale Prize, and in March 2025 he won TOETSEN, the YPF/LISZT Utrecht junior competition. He soloed with orchestra in concertos by Haydn and Mendelssohn. Demian loves everything related to music, including theory, and dreams of a career as a professional pianist and conductor. He also loves cooking, table tennis, owls, and cats.

Carel den Hertog

Conductor

Carel den Hertog has been conductor and artistic director of the Netherlands Youth String Orchestra since 2014. He studied violin at the conservatories of The Hague, Amsterdam, and Tilburg and graduated with honours in 2010. His interests include authentic performance practice, contemporary music, and Eastern European folk music. As a violinist he traveled extensively to the Balkans, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, and India, and conducted tours in Lebanon and South Africa. Carel is currently interim conductor at the De Philharmonie Orchestra due to the unexpected passing of the chief conductor. He also is a programmer/curator and editor at Dutch Radio4. As a conductor, chamber musician, and programmer, Carel combines artistic leadership with a passion for innovation and education.

Noé Inui

Violin

Noé Inui, born in Brussels to Greek/Japanese parents, graduated from the conservatories of Brussels, Paris, Karlsruhe, and Düsseldorf. He won many prizes, such as the Sibelius Competition (2005) and Young Concert Artists in New York (2009). In 2012 he received the Prix Julius Bärfrom the Verbier Festival Academy, awarded to a musician of exceptional talent, and in 2020 was selected the Concertgebouw’s Classical Futures Europe Artist.He has soloed with many orchestras, such as the Japan Philharmonic (Tokyo) and the Dutch National Ballet (Amsterdam), and has given performances in the US and throughout Europe. Noé also teaches at the Robert Schumann University of Music Düsseldorf and the Mannheim University of Music and Performing Arts.

Thorwald Jørgensen

Theremin

Thorwald Jørgensen is regarded as one of the world’s leading classical theremin players. He has soloed with orchestras such as the Boston Philharmonic, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, and Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. His concerts took him to Europe, Asia, and North and South America. Thorwald is an advocate for new theremin repertoire and numerous composers have written pieces for him, such as the Canadian Simon Bertrand, whose concerto he premiered in Montreal in 2023 with the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal. Together with pianist Kamilla Bystrova he recorded the CD albums Air Électrique and Nuit Exotique. As a guest lecturer and performer, he has worked at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, Stanford, and Harvard. He is lauded for his musicality, precision and innovative interpretations.

Eeva Koskinen

Violin

Eeva Koskinen, born in Helsinki, studied at the Sibelius Academy, and continued her studies with Viktor Liberman at the Utrecht Conservatory. She extended her studies with Wladimir Spivakov in France. After winning top-prizes at competitions, such as Tibor Varga (Switzerland), Vina del Mar (Chile) and Japan Competition (Tokyo), she has performed as a soloist with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, Concertgebouw Orchestra, Tokyo Metropolitan, and all the leading Finnish orchestras. With the North Netherlands Orchestra she gave Dutch premieres of violin concertos by Krenek, Tabachnik, and “Mambo, Blues and Tarantella” by Mark-Anthony Turnage. Eeva co-founded the Utrecht String Quartet, holds a teaching position at the Utrecht Conservatorium, and is first concertmaster of the North Netherlands Orchestra.

Rafael Kyrychenko

Piano

Rafael Kyrychenko, a Portuguese pianist, is a winner of numerous international competitions, capturing the audiences with his powerful performances and creative ideas. He won his first international piano prize in Spain at the age of eight. Since then he has won prizes at competitions in Denmark, Italy, France, Estonia, and the USA. He studied at the Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth with Maria João Pires, and obtained his bachelor's degree cum laude at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels with Prof. Daniel Blumenthal. In 2019, Rafael studied at the Imola Piano Academy, and since 2021 at the Escuela Superior Reina Sofia. Rafael gave concerts in Japan, the US, and Europe, performing with conductors such as Mikhail Jurowski, Philippe Entremont, and Vasily Sinaisky.

Frank van de Laar

Piano

Frank van de Laar studied with Jan Wijn at the Sweelinck Conservatory Amsterdam, where he graduated with the highest distinction. He continued his studies in Hanover with Prof. Karl-Heinz Kämmerling and in Amsterdam with Naum Grubert. In 1987 he won third prize at the International Brahms Competition in Hamburg and in 1988 first prize at the Postbank-Sweelinck Competition, followed by his debut in the main hall of the Concertgebouw. Since then, he has performed all over the world to critical acclaim. His repertoire ranges from Bach to contemporary music, including lesser-known and new masterpieces. Frank is an avid chamber musician and is loved for his musical depth. He holds teaching positions at the conservatories of Amsterdam and Zwolle.

Maud Nelissen

Piano

Maud Nelissen graduated cum laude from the Utrecht Conservatory, studying with Herman Uhlhorn. Her specialty and great passion is accompanying silent films, for which she has gained international recognition. Besides playing solo in silent films, Maud also composes and arranges for various ensembles, both chamber music and orchestra. She worked in Italy with Charlie Chaplin's last music arranger, Eric James. Since then she has performed at festivals and special events in Europe, the United States, and Asia. In 2011, she made her Hollywood debut at the TCM Festival. She founded her own ensemble, The Sprockets, to accompany silent films, and performs both solo and with The Sprockets, as well as with various other ensembles and orchestras.

(NYSO) Netherlands Youth String Orchestra

Netherlands Youth String Orchestra

The NYSO is a national training orchestra for promising young string players between the ages of 12 and 21 and rehearses weekly at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. Under direction of conductor Carel den Hertog, the NYSO won first prize at the Summa Cum Laude Competition in Vienna in 2023 and performed in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein and in the Main Hall of the Konzerthaus. The NYSO presents programs that consist of a special mix of standard and less familiar repertoire and often plays together with world-class soloists.

James Oesi

Double Bass

James Oesi started playing the double bass in Johannesburg at the age of twelve and moved to Moscow at sixteen, where he was the youngest student at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory to study with Lev Rakov. In 2012 he graduated cum laude from the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, and later on he was awarded the Fock Medaille for best solo exam of the year. The Strad named him one of five “up and coming bass players”. James is artistic director of BassFest and, since 2024, also of the Bach Festival Dordrecht. He performs with renowned ensembles such as Asko|Schönberg and Ensemble Modern. In 2024 he was appointed as a Professor of Double Bass at the Utrecht Conservatory.

Olga Pashchenko

Piano

Netherlands-based Olga Pashchenko is one of the most versatile keyboard performers of our time. She excels on fortepiano, harpsichord, organ, and modern piano, and performs internationally as a soloist, chamber musician, and recitalist. At the age of 9, she gave her first recital in New York. Olga graduated with honors from the Moscow Conservatory and subsequently obtained master's degrees at the Conservatory of Amsterdam with Richard Egarr and Thérèse de Goede. Since 2014 she has been artist in residence at the Beethoven Haus Bonn, and a frequent guest at various festivals, including the Utrecht Early Music Festival. In 2017, she was appointed as a Professor at the Sweelinck Conservatorium van Amsterdam and Royal Conservatory of Ghent.

Joey Roukens

Composer

Joey Roukens is a Dutch composer with Indonesian roots. His works are performed by major ensembles and soloists worldwide, such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, Tokyo Sinfonietta, Janine Jansen, Ralph van Raat, Colin Currie and the pianist brothers Lucas & Arthur Jussen. Since his graduation in 2006 he has emerged as one of the most striking and most performed Dutch contemporary composers of his generation.

His music is vibrant and eclectic, combining elements from different genres and styles. He seeks to organically integrate elements from highly diverse influences and aesthetics -including traditional classical music, rhythms of American minimalism, the Renaisance polyphony, as well as certain kinds of popmusic and jazz.

Marc Sabbah

Viola

American violist Marc Sabbah is a soloist, chamber musician, conductor, and artistic director of the Kâsteaux Chamber Music Festival. From 2012-2024 he was principal violist at the Belgian National Orchestra, and currently is professor at the Royal Conservatory of Mons, Belgium. He graduated cum laude from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Sven Arne Tepl and Nobuko Imai. Marc won the Rising Stars Grand Prix (2016) and the Manhattan International Music Competition, with performances at the Berliner Philharmonie and Carnegie Hall. He has soloed with orchestras in Europe, South America, and the Middle East. Zubin Mehta called him “a magnificent player” and at the Verbier Festival violin legend Ivry Gitlis christened him “The Paganini of viola”.

Pamela Smits

Cello

Canadian-born cellist Pamela Smits has received wide acclaim for her phenomenal command of technique, expression, and distinctive charismatic musical presence. She enjoys a varied career, combining appearances as soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, and educator. Her career has taken her to the US, South America, Asia, and throughout Europe. She performed with esteemed musicians including Olli Mustonen, Isabelle van Keulen, and Michael Collins, and also enjoys interdisciplinary liaisons with actors, writers, and visual artists. She has given masterclasses in the US, Germany, and the Netherlands. Pamela studied at the Sweelinck Conservatory with Jean Decroos and at Indiana University Bloomington (USA) with Janos Starker. She has a broad repertoire, from baroque to contemporary, and has played several world premieres.

Hein Wiedijk

Clarinet

Clarinetist Hein Wiedijk graduated cum laude with George Pieterson at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam and joined the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in 1996. He is also an avid chamber musician and won the Vriendenkrans Competition in 1987 with pianist Frank van de Laar and cellist Larissa Groeneveld, and won several prizes at international competitions. Hein is co-founder of the record label Gutman Records, organizes the Amsterdam Piano Series, and performs around fifty concerts a year with Camerata RCO – the chamber music ensemble he founded in 2009 together with his wife, violinist Annebeth Webb. In 2024 he celebrated his silver jubilee with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
