A genuine movie night with three silent movies and live music!
On board an emigrant ship bound for America, Charlie meets the beautiful Purviance and is accused of theft. Today, Charlie Chaplin's The Immigrant, about the journey to Ellis Island, remains as funny, moving, and relevant as it was a century ago.
But first we start with a short melodrama from the Eye Film Museum collection: De Molens die juichen en weenen After being refused charity by the miller, the vagabond takes revenge on the miller's family.
Rien que les heures (Nothing but Time) is a 1926 experimental silent avant-garde film that depicts a single day in Paris in 45 minutes. According to pianist and film composer Maud Nelissen, the music written for this film is a mix of different styles: Milhaud, Debussy, Ravel, and more modern film music that "belong" to the different times of day and night in the city. Her specialty and great passion is accompanying silent films, for which she has acquired an international reputation.
Eeva, Maud, and Pamela have previously performed together at a renowned film festival in Lapland. A memorable experience, according to artistic director Pamela Smits. The ultimate movie experience also includes snacks and drinks, which will be provided during the intermission. Don't miss this unique opportunity. Seats in the atmospheric Waalse Kerk are limited this time!
